Detailed Description

Almost everything we do depends on conversation or communication. It's how we plan and organise our lives, how we build friendships and get close to people, understand how people feel and most importantly in the business world it's how we influence others, sort out problems and create new opportunities.

Delegates begin by examining communications on a personal level with an emphasis on conversation, creating an open climate and the introduction of storytelling on a superficial level. Other aspects that will be considered are reading between the lines, filling in the gaps left by the speaker, checking understanding and giving feedback.

The only way to learn advanced skills is to practise and there will be opportunities to do this if delegates wish to do so.

After mastering personal communications, attendees will be introduced to Storytelling as a tool for use in a business environment. Storytelling can be used to enhance business presentations, de-personalise tense or awkward situations as well as simply engaging the audience. Attendees will be introduced to a simple framework for generating stories and have the opportunity to write some of their own. Analogy and metaphor are powerful techniques that are often linked to storytelling. And these too will be explored.

With personal communications mastered it is now time to play to an audience. This can be a nerve-wracking experience for even the most accomplished of presenters. Here we look at the mechanics of creating an effective presentation and delivering it. There is almost too much to remember, however those attending will leave with greater confidence and over 100 'Top Tips' for improving their own performance in this area.

Sessions are run according to the composition of those participating, however there will be opportunities to polish existing presentations, practise or simply be coached. This is a valuable opportunity for individuals to learn more about and practise their communications skills in a safe environment.
